Buhari grants financial autonomy to state Legislature and Judiciary

President Muhammedu Buhari has granted autonomy to the state legislature and the state Judiciary.

Buhari granted the autonomy on Friday, 22nd May 2020 via a new executive order.

This was disclosed by the President via his official twitter handles.

Buhari also promised to strengthen the principles and practice of democratic governance in the country.

Subsequently, after several years of expectation, the state legislature and Judiciary has finally be granted autonomy.

Howbeit, Buhari signed the autonomy under Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution (as Amended).

“Based on the power vested in me under Section 5 of the 1999 Constitution (as Amended), I, today, signed into law Executive Order No. 10 of 2020 for the implementation of Financial Autonomy of State Legislature and State Judiciary.”

He also added that the administration will continue to do everything to strengthen the principles and practice of democracy and democratic governance in Nigeria.
